HTML web design is becoming a growing career, with more than 5,000 people working in the field according to a report released by the World Wide Web Consortium.
As a profession, web design has a long and storied history.
But the report, by the web design community and industry associations, said the profession is rapidly evolving in a way that could significantly impact the digital economy.
Web designers are expected to make up a growing proportion of the work force, the report said, adding that the growth will continue to accelerate as companies shift towards mobile and social design.
While it’s still unclear exactly how many web designers work in the sector, the number is growing at a pace that is faster than the number of designers, said Dr. Akshay Sharma, a senior research fellow at the Open Technology Institute (OTI) and co-author of the report.
It is not surprising, said Sharma, because there is a large and growing market for web designers.
But he said it’s important to note that the number may not have reached the 1 million mark for the industry as of now.
