Hello all!
Here’s a quick rundown of the news that’s been brewing on the Reddit front lately:We’ve been talking about how Reddit is a great platform for getting more in-depth feedback from your users, but how does it compare to the industry?
In other words, does it really matter if the feedback comes from someone outside of Reddit?
That’s the question we asked the scorpions, who answered by answering with an emphatic yes!
Here’s how they felt about Reddit, in the context of other platforms:Here’s a breakdown of what they’re hoping to achieve with the AMA:The questions they were asked:Reddit is an amazing platform for receiving feedback, but what is it like to work on a design project that you can’t see the whole project coming from?
We’ve asked the designers we work with to share their experiences and insights on Reddit.
Here are some highlights from our AMA thread:The scorpions answered with the same emphatic, “No”The scorpion that asked the question: “Can I help you?”
The scorpion asking the question:”How do I start getting better at this?
What should I expect to get better at?
Thanks for reading!”
The scorpious that asked: “What advice would you give to aspiring designers and developers?
What would you do differently if you were in my position?
If I was able to answer, would you share it with me?”
The answer from the scorpian was: “If I had to do anything differently, I would never get paid in the first place.
I have to do my best every day.”
We asked the people we work on projects with the scorpors: “Hey, how do you work with your team?”
The answers from the designers ranged from, “It’s great, it’s really great, we’re just lucky to have the people that we do, they’re always helping us, it just feels good, they can help us with any problem we have.”
The scorpors answered: “I have to start learning about design and then get better every day, even if I’m just making a design, I just need to make sure that I’m really good at it.
The more I work, the more I learn, the better I get.”
The responses from the developers ranged from “It sucks that I get so little feedback.
I get all this feedback but I never do anything about it.
I’m always working on something new, but it never gets to me.”
The developers responded: “The thing that I love about design is that there’s always something new.
The thing that makes me feel like I’m doing a great job is that I have new tools to learn and new ways to do things.”
The answers from designers ranged: “This is my dream job, to be a designer and help the world, and the best part is that my job is also really fun, so I can go do what I want and not worry about how I’m going to get paid.
I can do my own thing and enjoy it.
What’s more important to me is to have fun, and I’m super excited to be part of a community that makes that possible.”
The developer that asked about getting paid: “It is awesome to be paid, but I do feel like that’s a bit too much to ask, because I’ve been working hard and I’ve always made sure that my team is doing a good job.
If I were to be compensated, it would probably be at a higher level than what I get now.
If you want to be able to get your hands on a big salary, I recommend getting a job as a designer.”
The questioners from the devs ranged from: “Why should I care?
I’m an engineer.
If it’s a good project and I get paid for it, great.
I know I’m awesome.
If not, it doesn’t matter because it’s not me who gets paid.
It’s the community that is working so hard for the project.
You’re all awesome.
And if you are paid for this, I’m sorry, but you’re not getting paid for the rest of the year.
But you are getting paid.”
The devs answered: “[I am] working really hard, so why shouldn’t I get the full reward?
I’ve done a lot of research on Reddit, I know that the community is really great and I don’t want to do a bad job or not be able get paid at the end of the semester.
Theres a lot to learn about designing on Reddit and I want to take it one step further.
I want my team to get the credit and I can make my team the best.
But I can’t be paid.
If the community thinks I should be paid for what I do, I will take that as a sign that I will be the best designer on the planet.
But we can’t let the community decide what I should do.”
